Xperience

Xperience is a tailored gene-therapy, consumed as a drug in aerosolised form via an inhaler. It is a product of the Sublime Corporation, created from the genetic material of assorted mutants, mostly members of the X-Men (since they have the highest media profile and Sublime intends to market the drug).

A brief snort of Xperience will power up the user with the powers of the X-Man in question for several hours. It appears to be mildly addictive, although it is unclear whether this is a physical effect or merely a psychological one.

Known members of the X-Men whose genetic material was used to create varieties of Xperience include Wolverine, Deadpool, Cyclops, Beast, Iceman, Angel, Emma Frost, Professor X and Jean Grey in both her Marvel Girl and Phoenix incarnations. (But not Adam X. Never Adam X.) However, due to the efforts of the X-Men, Xperience is no longer being created, and only a few stolen samples of it still exist.

X-Cise

Much like the Hope Serum that preceded (and inspired) it, X-Cise was created by the Institute of Bio-Social Studies as a pharmaceutical cure for being a mutant. However, it differs from the Hope Serum in that it is a neuroblocker rather than a gene therapy. X-Cise “cures” mutants by burning out the thought centres of their brains. The mutant powers are still present, but the ability of the brain to utilize them is destroyed, in a treatment that constitutes clinical brain damage and also impairs the cognitive function of those who take it.

Perhaps unsurprisingly, the guiding force behind the creation of X-Cise was eventually revealed to be the Red Skull, a Nazi supervillain known for his racism and sadism.

Mutant Growth Hormone

Originally a powerful, non-addictive mutagen devised by X-Man Hank McCoy (a.k.a. The Beast), Mutant Growth Hormone has since been debased into a less potent but more addictive form, and shown up on the streets of New York City, usually abbreviated to MGH.

MGH is created from the DNA of a mutant (or mutate), and grants the user with limited superpowers for a brief period. Although most sellers of the drug claim that the powers granted are related to the person who the MGH was harvested from, this is in fact untrue, and the powers granted arise from the activation of latent mutant genes in the user.

Known DNA sources for MGH include Hank McCoy (who made the original formulation from his own DNA and took it himself, which may account for both the potency and permanency of the effects), Leland Owlsley (the criminal known as The Owl) and Mattie Franklin (the third Spider-Woman). No verified sample has ever been created from the DNA of Peter Parker (Spider-Man) although dealers frequently claim him as a source of the drug.

Kick

Kick is the street name of the drug Hypercortisone D – but it’s really a sentient bacterium that more often goes by the name Sublime.

Native to the Marvel Universe, Kick appears to cause psychosis, but this is actually the result of it enabling Sublime to control the minds of whoever takes it – a list which includes Kid Omega, Beast and Magneto (or possibly Xorn – accounts vary). In at least one alternate future, this drug/entity actually succeeded in taking over the world, which is a rare accomplishment for any drug to claim.

Sublime/Kick has few discernable goals, but one of them is the absolute destruction of mutantkind, which it regards as one of the few threats to its existence – largely because it can control mutants only when they take it in Kick, rather than the purely viral control that is sufficient to control most humans.

Human Drug M

A pill produced on the island of Krakoa, the independent mutant nation located in the west Pacific, Human Drug I is a cure for ‘diseases of the mind.’ It is unclear whether mutantphobia is one of the affected diseases.

It is a naturally produced chemical grown by specialised and unique plants on Krakoa, and distributed to nations that have the appropriate treaties with Krakoa by the Hellfire Trading Company.

Human Drug L

A pill produced on the island of Krakoa, the independent mutant nation located in the west Pacific, Human Drug I is a life extension treatment, prolonging human life by five years. It is unclear whether this means five years per dose, or is a singular effect that a given person can only benefit from once.

Hope Serum

Hope is a liquid used for intramuscular injection, with a single dose or injection providing permanent effects. It was developed by Dr Kavita Rao at Benetech with the assistance of the alien Ord of the Breakworld, and was initially immensely popular. However, once it was revealed that it had been developed from the DNA of mutants who died from the Legacy Virus and tested on captive mutants, it became much less popular, with the X-Men in particular taking action to prevent it from being further developed or applied.

The Hope Serum appears to suppress any effects of the X-Gene, although it is unknown how it would react with the physiology of some of the less human-appearing mutants. Since the dissolution of Benetech and Dr Rao’s defection to the X-Men, it is unknown whether any records or samples of the drug remain.

Happy Pills

Little is known of Happy Pills, a highly addictive drug apparently created by Shi’ar criminals. Indeed, it’s likely that Happy Pills is only a nickname for the drug.

What little can be inferred regarding the drug suggests that is a potent painkiller that induces mild euphoria – no doubt the Shi’ar physiology’s equivalent of an opiate.
