“New Year’s Day” by U2

Nothing changes on New Year’s Day
A world in white gets underway

Trust Bono to contradict himself in the space of two sentences.  Because unless I’m very much misinformed, ‘getting underway’ would constitute a change of state for the world.  (Which, paranthetically, is not entirely in white either – at most, a good percentage of the northern hemisphere and a smaller percentage of the southern hemisphere are in white.)

And given that the song goes on to refer to breaking through and getting torn in two – both of which sound a lot like changes to me – it seems fairly apparent that a great many things change on New Year’s Day.   It’s just that Bono being a pompous git isn’t one of them.
