Devilsroot, sometimes just called Root is a naturally-growing tuber that, when chewed, releases a stimulant. However, the juices of the tuber are very bitter to the taste, so Devilsroot is often brewed into a tea, which is then consumed only after having been sweetened with sugar to cut the bitterness.

The tea is also preferred by some users, especially among the younger Drow, because Devilsroot juice stains the teeth when chewed, making it harder to conceal one’s habit (and also just for reasons of fashion).
